Seed Starting Mix
Our seed starting mix provides just the right balance of water retention and aeration for delicate seeds to germinate. This blend is a far better choice for starting seeds than standard potting soils, which are sometimes too rich in nutrients, may not drain well, and can become compacted.
Unlike branded mixes, our seed starting mix contains biochar to help with germination, being based on YukonGrow’s inoculated + charged up biochar mixture (10% v/v). This blend is rich in organic matter and provides a fine lightweight texture that makes it easy for tiny seedling roots to grow, without becoming compacted in containers.
This mix can be used in seed trays and soil blocks/cubes. Directions: Moisten the mix thoroughly (it should feel like the consistency of peanut butter). Gently pack Seed Starting Mix in seed containers or plugs (don’t press soil too firmly to avoid compaction). Follow instructions on your seed packet for planting depth. If needed, sprinkle a thin layer of vermiculite over your seeds if they need darkness to germinate. Once seedlings are established, use our Seedling Transplant Mix to support the next phase of growth.
