Houseplants Blends
In general, plants need a pH between 6-7 (slightly acidic to neutral), but some have particular needs. This chart shows the desired pH for many common houseplants. If need be, pH adjusters are available here.
Re-potting houseplants is not necessarily as much about the soil as it is about the roots. If we want the plant to grow bigger, the roots need space for growing. Most houseplants like a yearly re-potting, perhaps every two years as the plant reaches maturity. Once it's reached maximum height, it might not need re-potting at all.
Careful about re-potting shock, esp. with sensitive plants! Too drastic of a change in type of soil can indeed be detrimental, even if going towards a soil that is better suited for that type of plant.
